We see criticism as a vital mode of community building. Toronto Review fosters local writers’ voices, shines a spotlight on work by Canadian creatives, and creates a hub to connect readers to a vibrant literary scene. While we place an emphasis on Canadian and Torontonian voices, TR engages in conversation with all kinds of books and writers and thus we welcome contributors from all over the world.
Toronto Review is founded by Emma Olivia Cohen, Tia Glista, Abby Lacelle, Adrianna Michell, and Winnie Wang, with art direction by Sonja Katanic. TR will launch in 2026.
What People Are Saying
“Canadian literature is quickly bypassing its constraints and thresholds into what I believe is an oncoming literary transformation. We will need housings like Toronto Review who can help new and established writers bloom into this otherwise hinterland.”
— JOSHUA WHITEHEAD, Lambda Literary award-winning author of Jonny Appleseed
“Toronto is a city of cultural creation without reliable, consistent, and well-circulated sources of cultural criticism. Toronto Review gives me hope.”
— ADAM NAYMAN, critic and author
“Thrilling to imagine this convergence of text-sensitive stylists and aesthetes creating an original and vital document for our time and our city. This city has the brainpower and artistry for its own Paris Review. Brilliant.”
— CLAUDIA DEY, best-selling author of Daughter, and HEIDI SOPINKA, author of Utopia and National Magazine Award winner
